Chapter 5: The Psycopath

"Oh, Jesus," Shane lowers his gun. You didn't recognise him, although everyone else seems relieved. He holds a crossbow in his arm and you take a step backwards. You definitely did not want to die.

The guy with the crossbow walks out of the leaves, cursing almost immediately. "Son o' a bitch," he says and looks at them before back down. "Tha's my deer!"

 His deer? What?

"Look at it, all gnawed on by this..." He trails off before sending a kick to the geek's corpse, "filthy, disease-bearin', motherless, poxy bastard!" Each word is punctuated by a kick and you almost feel sorry for the geek.

"Calm down, son. That's not helping," Dale replies and the guy walks to Dale with a snarl.

"Wha' do ya know 'bout it old man?" He questions roughly. "Why don't ya take tha' stupid hat and go back to "On Golden Pond"?"

"Well, wasn't that rude," you mutter quietly to yourself.

He lets out a sigh of annoyance. "I've been trackin' this deer for miles," he talks loudly, plucking each arrow. Andrea and Amy look at him, eyes narrowed and faces scrunched. "Gonna drag it back to camp, cook us up some venison," he takes out a knife after that. "What do ya think? Do ya think we can cut 'round this chewed up part right here?" He crouches to indicate the part.

"I would not risk that," Shane says, gun settled on his shoulder, his two arms around it. Truth be told, your conscience lay with Shane on that one. If you could turn into a geek, you did not want to risk life for luxury.

"That's a damn shame," he stands back up. "I got some squirrel -- 'bout a dozen or so. That'll have to do."

"So, dinner's going to be squirrel stew. How quaint," you tell yourself. "Who's he?" You question Andrea.

Before an answer could be formed, a sickening sound of snapping jaws reverberates and both of them look down. "Oh God," Amy blinks once before Andrea takes her away. You stay there, though, curious of why it didn't die.

"C'mon, people, what the hell?" He shoots an arrow to its brain and you gape at him, taking two more steps backwards. He takes his arrow back and you almost gag at that. Oh yeah, that is disgusting. "It's gotta be the brain. Don't y'all know nothin'?"

He passes by you and raises his brow before continuing onwards on his trek. The men depart and you glance at the head one last time before joining them.

"Get your ugly ass out here! I got us some squirrel! Let's stew 'em up!" The pyscho, you dub him as, walks to the RV.

"Daryl, just slow up a bit. I need to talk to you," Shane says and he does stop. So, his name's Daryl. You remember it from last night's conversation.

 "'Bout wha'?"

"About Merle," Shane walks past him. "There was a -- there was a problem in Atlanta."
You look on as Daryl walks around. You're not even sure what's going on. Rick and the others came from Atlanta and you're sure the guy Merle wasn't there.

And then, you remember the conversation of yesterday, how they were discussing about breaking the news of Merle to Daryl. You remember Rick saying something about handcuffing a guy.

"No easy way to say this, so I'll just say it," that breaks you out of your reverie and you're back to looking at them.

"Who're you?" Daryl questions.

 "Rick Grimes."

"Rick Grimes, ya got somethin' ya want to tell me?" He snaps at Rick, waving an arrow as his eyes glint dangerously. For a second there, you thought that he was about to punch the sheriff.

"Your brother was a danger to us all, so I handcuffed him on a roof and hooked him to a piece of metal," Rick explains. "He's still there."

"Hold on, lemme process this," you see Daryl walk away. "You're sayin' you handcuffed my brother to a roof, and you left him there?!"

Wait, what? Brother? Rick handcuffed someone's brother to the roof? Holy shit. You're looking at the ground now because if Rick had cuffed your brother to the roof, you'd be bawling.

As you look back up, you're startled to see that Rick is ducking as a string of squirrels is thrown to him. Daryl lunges at Rick but Shane tackles Daryl to the side. You jog a little closer to see that Daryl has unsheathed a knife and is soon back on his feet.

The people near the RV have moved inside or far behind the fight and you hear gasps as Daryl swipes at Rick. You thank God that he's a sheriff, or cop. Rick goes backwards two steps, evading the swift move of the knife before he grabs Daryl's right arm and cranks it to the back.

You're sure you hear a crack.

Shane grabs him from the back and pins one arm as Rick pins the other. Rick then cracks the arm with the weapon, causing the knife to drop. "You'd best let me go!" Daryl screams, Shane's arm under his jaw while the other's above his head. "Nah, I think it's best if I don't," Shane answers

You wince at that. The battle engrosses you and as you look, you see the rest staring at Daryl and Shane. "Choke hold's illegal," Daryl puffs out breathlessly. You make a mental note to never piss them off to that extent. The thought of your bones breaking makes a shudder run up your spine.

"Yeah, well, you can file a complaint," Shane replies back. Rick crouches down and whispers something, Daryl puffing out short chokes. And then, Shane releases the man, him scrambling at the ground.

And they talk a slight bit more before another voice interjects. "It's not Rick's fault. I had the key. I dropped it," you glance to see T-Dog speaking.

"Ya coul'nt pick it up?" Daryl's voice gets louder and you decide it's best that you go to the side where there's many people. You walk briskly to where Andrea and Amy is, hearing a, "Well, I dropped it in a drain."

Daryl stands back up and by then, you're already near Andrea. The ones in the RV come back out, seeing that the hot-headed psycho was back to normal. "If it's s'pposed to make me feel better, it don't," he throws a fistful of sand to the ground.

"Well, maybe this will. Look, I chained the door to the roof so the geeks couldn't get at him -- with a padlock," T-Dog explains. "It's gotta count for something," Rick shakes his head while Daryl wipes his eyes before his lowering his head.

 Is he crying? Oh, wow.

"Hell with all y'all! Jus' tell me where he is, so's I can go get 'im," it is pretty obvious now that his voice is strained.

"He'll show you. Isn't that right?" Lori's tone cuts through the air as Daryl and Rick both look at her.

 "I'm going back," Rick pledges.
